Your Heart is the Nucleus of Your Life

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

Proverbs 4:23

Oxford Languages defines nucleus as "the central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth." The heart is not only your most important organ physically, but it is also the foundation of who you are spiritually. Spiritual doctrines often speak on the importance of one protecting the heart because the highest power knows, a tainted heart can lead to a toxic life, or a peaceful heart can lead to a powerful life. The matters of the heart can be life changing in a positive or a negative way. To put it in simpler terms, the things that are allowed to affect you internally will shape your life externally. For example, if your first love broke your heart, you more than likely never forget it and as a result, you walked through love in fear instead of faith. You carried that hurt with you into every relationship and though the houses looked different (the new relationships), the foundation was still the same (unhealed trauma).

The scientific nucleus is protected by a double layered membrane called the nuclear envelope and, in this analogy, we will consider the mind to be the nuclear envelope of the heart. The nuclear envelope maintains and monitors the shape of the nucleus, as well as the molecules flowing in and out of it. If the heart is the nucleus of our life, are we properly protecting it by monitoring what we put in our mind? Is our hearts membrane (the mind), double layered to filter and flush out the filth? Or is our hearts membrane (the mind), thin and permeable allowing the pollution in and not keeping it out? It is very important to be mindful of the things you allow to be fixed on your mind because what is placed on your mind, will become plaque on your heart.

I believe our mind works for our heart. The mind is the security guard for the heart and some of our minds have not been diligent, but more so off-duty. For example, when a negative thought arises, instead of our mind sending that thought into exile, our mind holds onto that thought as a prisoner. The prisoner then turns into a poison that seeps into our heart and manifests in our lives. We must learn to acknowledge the thoughts that don't serve us, let them visit, but we cannot allow them to live within us. Allowing these non-serving thoughts to dwell in us leads to multiple ailments such as anxiety and depression. The people who are living a wealthy life do not necessarily have the most money, but they have the most mind control. They have peace because even when things are not perfect, they have a positive perspective. Wealthy people have figured out "the secret", they know in order to manifest the desires of the heart, they must first program the mind.

The heart is the command center of our cosmic existence providing us with the instructions on how to grow, develop and reproduce, like the DNA found in chromosomes. The heart cannot properly command if we do not have control over our mind. The heart is not just an organ keeping us alive physically, but it is the orchestrator of the music we create spiritually. If the mind is the gatekeeper of the heart, why is yours so open? You cannot let any and everything in. You cannot eat spoiled food and expect not to get sick. You cannot hang with chickens and expect to fly like an eagle. You cannot reach your destiny if you only engage in drama. Your heart is ready for your action, but your mind just won't listen.

I often pray that more people start living from their heart, but the truth is more people need to start protecting their mind. Protect your mind from anything that is low vibrational and I’m not just referring to negative thoughts, but also negative people, places, television shows, music, and or food. An unhealthy heart is not a reflection of hurt, but it is a mirror of the madness in the mind. The hurt people carry is like baggage of the mind, it is a library of books on top of books and those that waddle in hurt, keep re-reading bad chapters instead of writing a new one. The heart is waiting for the dream to be realized, but it can't be if the mind is only focused on life's nightmares.

An unrestricted mind creates a restricted heart and as a result the heart never fulfills its purpose because the mind knows no peace. Your heart cannot be free if your mind is a prison. Your heart cannot fly if your mind is carrying dead weight. Feed your mind substance so your heart won’t starve. Going forward from this day on, protect your heart more. Do not open the door of your mind to things you do not want to access your heart. Always remember being too open will never lead to opulence, only depreciation. When you begin to monitor your mind, you will see your life transform because your heart will finally have a filter allowing it to remain pure.

Tips to Keep a Pure Heart and Positive Mind

  • Connect with your spirit through service, volunteer at your local food pantry and or homeless shelter.

  • Listen to positive podcasts such as Joel Osteen, TD Jakes or The Positive Mindset.

  • Read! Read self-help books, my current must-read is 101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think.

  • Surround yourself with positive people. If you feel your energy is drained after an encounter with friends, family and or associates, it is time to find a new circle.

  • Surround yourself with things that inspire versus distract.

  • When negative thoughts arise, meditate on the things you are thankful for.

  • Do not allow your mind to stay idle for too long, get busy with your hobby or fitness activities.

  • Focus on today! The past will make you depressed and the future will make you anxious. Be present.

  • Prayer. Stay in a constant state of prayer throughout the day and you will be in the presence of peace.

  • Practice self-care. Spending time alone is a gift. Take yourself to your favorite place.

  • Spend time in nature. Relax, reflex and regroup with yourself.

  • Be kind to all, but open to few.

With Love,
