The Highest Version of You

Have you ever laid in bed and stared at the ceiling, wondering what the hell you are doing with your life? Are you fulfilling your purpose? Are you doing what God called you to do — or are you doing what the world told you to do? The script: married by 30, two-and-a-half kids, a home with a picket fence, and just be satisfied. Or maybe you are the stay-at-home mom who was taught to support your partner’s success while you clap from the sidelines — knowing full well you are equipped to play the game.

I have wondered all of those things. I lived the so-called American dream. I went to college. I landed a six-figure job in corporate. I had the child. And still — I was hungry. Hungry for my heart to smile, not just settle.

The more I accomplished, the more I realized — these were never my goals at all. I never consulted God about them. They had the world’s fingerprints all over them.

I am writing this because you might feel exactly the same. And if you do, this is your permission slip.

This is the season to step out of your comfort zone and walk into your calling. To create a new life, you are going to have to divorce your old one. You will have to learn to walk again — but with new shoes. The old way of moving, the old rhythm, the old agreements you made with a smaller version of yourself — those cannot come with you.

THE PRACTICE: Write Down the Highest Version of You

Be descriptive. This is not a vision board. This is a blueprint.

  • What does she eat? How does she move her body?

  • What type of music does she listen to? What fills her mind?

  • What company does she keep? Who has access to her?

  • How does she care for her mind, her heart, her spirit?

  • What goals is she pursuing — without the two cents of the world?

  • What would you do if fear and other people’s opinions were removed?

  • What story are you still telling yourself that your highest self has already stopped believing?

  • What does your morning look like — and does it reflect who you’re becoming?

Once you have written down who she is and what she does, you now have your action steps.

Every day you wake up, take one step toward your becoming. No matter how big or small. Go to the gym. Eat clean. Write a chapter of the book you keep talking about. Read ten pages of the book you bought but never read. Do the thing you have been putting off until you feel “ready.” You will never feel ready. Do it anyway.

We have to be intentional with our words so we can be intentional with our actions. Your becoming is depending on it.
